WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 25, 2023. **Subject to change

LATE WORK WILL BE GRADED AS ZERO. BE RESPONSIBLE.

Period 1: English 3/4

MON-FRI: “American History” short story by Cortez. Vocabulary (individual part of speech and definition (for vocab test) and group turns in sentences using the words, vocabulary quiz, reading the story, comprehension questions (group), argumentative essay learning, write argumentative essay.

NOTE: If you are absent for story reading, read it and summarize what you read. If absent, see “Period 1” folder for handouts. Work is due the day after you return.

Period 2: Reading/Literature/Film

MON-FRI: “Incident on Cur Street” short story. Vocabulary, vocabulary quiz, reading the story, learning about MLA formatting https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_in_text_citations_the_basics.html), MLA citing practice doing essays. Assign essay.

IF YOU ARE ABSENT, see the “period 2” folder for makeup work.

Period 3: ELA 6th Grade

MON-FRI: FIRST, we will go over quizzes from last week. Then begin activities for “The Wish” short story by Dahl vocabulary, vocabulary quiz, reading the story, post-reading comprehension questions, learning about 5 paragraph essays, assign essay (handout).

TUES HW: Write a paragraph about what you wish for. Your spelling and grammar will be graded.

THURS HW: Write 1 sentence using each of the following words: Wish (noun), wish (verb), wished, and wishing. Spelling, grammar, and use of the word will be graded.

IF YOU ARE ABSENT, see the “period 3” folder for makeup work.

Period 4: Ethics

MON: Finish Million Dollar Baby movie and discussion. Assign ethical dilemma group project on euthanasia.

TUES – FRI: Work on group presentation. Graded participation. Presentations begin on Monday.

Period 5: Geography / Culture

MON-TUES: Map vocabulary handout. Practice vocabulary.

WED: SILENT STUDY PERIOD.

THURS-FRI: Vocabulary quiz first, then reading a Map and practice exercises.

IF YOU ARE ABSENT, get handouts from “Period 5” folder and links to videos from Mrs. Smith. You will need to view the video on your own and write a summary of what you learned.

Period 6: Speech and Debate (no class Wednesdays)

MON: Debate

TUES, THURS, FRI: Assign second debate. Work on debate preparation.
