Field Trips & Travel Programs

Step out and experience the world with all of your senses at Micanopy Academy: field trips inspire our learning with new sights, smells, tastes and sounds. Whether it’s a trip to a fisheries and aquatic center for a science project or a few hours at the local trampoline park to burn off some energy and connect with each other, we regularly take students on field trips to extend our learning outside the four walls of the classroom.

Travel programs at Micanopy Academy expand your world even further from home. We invite all students to attend one of longer trips to destinations such as New York City and Peru. With staff chaperones, and the planning support of a travel agency, our students step out of their comfort zone and learn about the possibilities that await. Where will we go next?

Overview

Our small school size means we can take more field trips than larger schools are able to offer. We seek to have fun, explore our community, and learn something new with a variety of field trips that take advantage of all that our area has to offer.

Travel -  Highlights

Overview

Our goal is for students to see and experience the world through immersive travel that inspires everyone to continue seeking and exploring. These trips are slated to be offered every other year and are open to all Micanopy Academy students. Fundraising and scholarship opportunities are always included in the planning process.

New York City 2022

In June 2022 we took a 4-day trip to visit some of NYC’s most famous sites such as China Town, the Statue of Liberty and the Financial District. Highlights included visiting Ground Zero & the 9/11 Museum, taking in the view from the Empire State Building, riding the subway, tickets to a Broadway show, and a stroll through Central Park.

Peru 2024

In 2024, we will be taking a group of adventurous students and teachers to Peru! With the help of a stellar travel agency, we’ve planned a 17 day trip to visit the Uros Floating Islands in Lake Titicaca, hike Machu Picchu, and explore the Amazon among other historic and cultural destinations.

Blake M.

"I love coming to school because of all the good activities, field trips and it's filled with all good people."

Adrianne J.

"In my time in NYC, I learned about real-world problems that I hadn't been exposed to before. The trip to NYC broadened my perspective of the world, on issues such as equality, economic inflation, and pollution. Coming from a small town, I had heard about all of these issues, but I had never been physically exposed to them. This trip has inspired me to make a difference in the world around me, in any way that I can."

Principal Walker

“We tell our students all the time that they can do anything that they want, as long as they put their minds to it. We take them to places that show them what the future can hold.”
