Week of January 8, 2024 - Happy New Year!

WEEK OF JANUARY 8, 2024. **Subject to change


FRIDAY, January 12, 2024, is a student holiday.


MONDAY, January 15, 2024, is a school holiday (MLK Jr. Birthday)


LATE WORK GRADED AS ZERO. If you have a valid excuse for being late, you MUST email me the night before and ask for an extension.


HW: If you don’t turn in your HW, you will write a 5-paragraph essay: “Why it is Harmful to Not Do My Homework.”


Period 1: English HS (If absent, see “Period 1” folder for handouts).

This week we will be preparing for and taking the First Semester midterm exam, required for high school core classes.

WED night HW: Write down the definition, part of speech, and two sentences for each of these words: Happenstance, Perchance, Glance (noun).


Period 2: Reading/Literature/Film (IF ABSENT, see the “period 2” make-up work folder).

This week we will be working with the short story, “The Friday That Changed Everything.” Vocabulary work, vocabulary quiz, reading the story, comprehension work and figurative language worksheet.

WED night HW: Write down the definition, part of speech, and two sentences for each of these words: Grapple, Topple, Gobble.


Period 3: ELA 6th Grade (IF ABSENT, see the “period 3” make-up folder).

This week we will be working with poetry in the textbook, pages 48-54. We will go over some poetry handouts; students will write poetry and read it to the class.

TUES night HW: Write down the definition, part of speech, and two sentences for each of these words: Tax (noun), Tax (verb), Task (noun), Task (verb).


Period 4: Ethics (IF ABSENT, see “period 4” folder for makeup work.)

This week we will be working with the ethics of the office of the President of the United States. The graded assignment this week will be a group assignment that sets ethical rules for the office of President of the United States, supported by reason and logic.


Period 5: STUDY HALL – 8th grade

This period is intended to offer additional time to complete assignments in all classes, absentee work, and afford help in 8th grade ELA. Come prepared to work and study. Grades are based upon dedication to study and behavior standards.


Period 6: Speech and Debate (no class Wednesdays)

The final debate of the semester will be done, and time permitting, impromptu speeches.
