WEEK OF JANUARY 22, 2024.   **Subject to change


REPORT CARDS ARE OUT JANUARY 23, 2024


LATE WORK GRADED AS ZERO.  If you have a valid excuse for being late, you MUST email me the night before and ask for an extension.


HW:  If you don’t turn in your HW, you will write a 5-paragraph essay: “Why it is Harmful to Not Do My Homework.”


Period 1:  English HS (If absent, see “Period 1” folder for handouts). 

This week we will be working with the short story, “Cora Unashamed.”  We will have vocabulary work, a vocabulary quiz on WED, read the story, and do comprehension questions.

TUES night HW:  Write down the definition, part of speech, and two sentences for each of these words: Sentiment, Confinement, Containment.

THURS:  Standardized ELA testing for grades 9/10.  Other grades, you will have quiet reading time to read what you choose – please plan accordingly. 


Period 2:  Reading/Literature/Film (IF ABSENT, see the “period 2” make-up work folder).

7th Grade ELA testing is Monday, Jan 22.

6th Grade ELA testing Tuesday, Jan 23.

MON – WED (DUE THURSDAY):  Handout with assignment to write a story.  Instructions and requirements are on the handout.

WED night HW:  Write down the definition, part of speech, and two sentences for each of these words:  Stoic, Fanfare, Racism.


Period 3:  ELA 6th Grade (IF ABSENT, see the “period 3” make-up folder).

MON:  Continue Vocabulary for “The Third Wish” that was started on Friday.

TUES:  Standardized ELA testing will be on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

WED:  We will begin reading “The Third Wish.”

WED night HW:  Essay Handout worksheet #2

THURS:  VOCABULARY QUIZ “The Third Wish” words. We will grade the quiz and then begin comprehension questions (handout) which will be completed on FRI.

THURS night HW:  Write down part of speech, definition and write two sentences each for these words:  Lack, Flack, Track (noun), Track (verb).


Period 4:  Political Science (IF ABSENT, see “period 4” folder for makeup work.)

MON:  Current events presentations (this will be weekly) and a rubric handout has been given.

TUES – FRIDAY:  We will discuss political topics that arise in the news.  Grading will be focused on class participation (talking in class and offering relevant discussion points) and group project work.  Group project work instructions will be given via written handouts.


Period 5:   STUDY HALL – 8th grade

This period is intended to offer additional time to complete assignments in all classes, absentee work, and afford help in 8th grade ELA.  Come prepared to work and study.  Grades are based upon dedication to study and behavior standards.


Period 6:  Creative Writing (no class Wednesdays)

During this semester, writing assignments will be given via written handouts with instructions.  They may be daily or over several days.
