WEEK OF August 21, 2023. **Subject to change

Period 1: English 3/4

MON: Watch video about culture (20 min) and discussion (graded participation). www.youtube.com/watch?v=D91hs241zeg. If absent, watch and write a summary of what you learned.

TUES: Review U.S. Immigration timeline (www.history.com/topics/immigration/immigration-united-states-timeline); graded participation. If absent, read and write a summary of what you learned as an alternative to graded participation.

WED-FRI: “America and I” reading and short story activities (handouts).


Period 2: Reading/Literature/Film

MON: Go over the vocabulary work (graded) and study for quiz.

TUES: Vocabulary quiz; start “The Sniper” story reading.

WED-FRI: Complete “The Sniper” story reading, do story activities (handouts).


Period 3: ELA 6th Grade

MON-FRI: Short story, “Cemetery Path” vocabulary work, vocabulary quiz, story related group and individual projects (handouts). If absent, see me for the story and the handouts.


Period 4: Ethics

MON: Ethics vs. Morality vs. law: Watch www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xki2fRA0bY8;

Consider: What is the basis for right and wrong?

Watch: Lifeboat ethics: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcKg7a3lNzw

Graded participation discussion. If absent, watch the videos and prepare written summaries of what you learned as an alternative to graded participation.


TUES: Read/discuss “Four O’Clock” – how a man dealt with his ethics. Group work – top 5 ETHICAL rules for classroom + how they relate to “ethics” (graded).


WED: Exploring cultural differences.

Graded participation discussion. If absent, watch the videos and prepare written summaries of what you learned as an alternative to graded participation.


THURS-FRI: Group work: Hypothesis: Think of or find a culture that you suspect might have different cultural rules than you do. Do research to see if you are right. Monday, present via PowerPoint presentation, your hypothesis, your research, and your conclusion.


Period 5: Geography / Culture

MON-THURS: Introduction to Geography videos, articles, graded participation. If absent, see me for the videos/articles. You will have to do a summary of what you learned as an alternative to graded participation.

FRI: Group activity: what I learned about introduction to Geography/Culture this week through words and pictures. If absent, you will have to do this on your own. See me for the links to the videos and articles.


Period 6: Speech and Debate (no class Wednesdays)

MON-TUES: Prepare for First Speech (argumentative speech – topic of choice, research required, 3 minutes).

THURS-FRI: Give speeches (graded), get critique, make list of speech pointers learned (graded).
