Week 5 - Halftime

Wednesday will be the halfway point of the first quarter. Progress reports will be going home. Students are working hard, but there have been some issues with assignments not being turned in. If you see an assignment with a zero in skyward, it is because the assignment has not been turned in. I hope the weather starts to cool down and that everyone has a pleasant week. All the best.


Economics

Monday – Class reviews centrally planned economies on pages 39 – 43. Students answer assessment questions of page 43.

HW: Students write an essay, comparing and contrasting the advantages and disadvantages of a free market economy with a centrally planned economy. Students take a position as to which form of economy they think is better and back up their position with information from the learning materials. (Due Thursday, Minimum of 200 words)

Tuesday – Quiz on 3 Key Economic Questions, Economic Goals of Society, and Free Market Economies. Students turn in notebooks.

Wednesday – Class reviews mixed economies on pages 44 – 49. Students answer assessment questions on page 49.

Thursday – Class reviews benefits of a free enterprise system on pages 50 – 56. Students answer assessment questions on page 56.

Friday – Class reviews supporting economic growth on pages 57 – 61. Students answer assessment questions on page 56.


World History

Monday – PowerPoint on the First Empire (Akkadian) & reviewing Sumer. Students take notes, watch videos, answer corresponding questions, and complete corresponding activities.

HW: Read pages 35 – 40 in the textbook.

HW: Write a 200 to 300 word essay summarizing the history of Mesopotamia from 6500 B.C. (Ubaid Period) to the end of the Akkadian Empire (2154 B.C.) (Due Friday)

Tuesday – Test on Dawn of Civilization, Ancient Egypt, Sumeria, Indus River Valley Civilization. Students turn in notebooks. Students who finish early should work on Mesopotamia essays.

Wednesday – PowerPoint on Babylonian, Hittite, Assyrian, and Neo Babylonian Empires. Students take notes, watch videos, answer corresponding questions, and complete corresponding activities.

Thursday – PowerPoint on Persian Empire. Students take notes, watch videos, answer corresponding questions, and complete corresponding activities.

Friday – PowerPoint on the Phoenicians. Students take notes, watch videos, answer corresponding questions, and complete corresponding activities.


American History

Monday – PowerPoint on Early English Colonization: Roanoke, Jamestown, & Plymouth. Students complete guided notes and turn in at the end of class. Review homework assignment

HW: Students complete “Settlers Cross the Atlantic Assignment” (Due Friday)

Tuesday - Quiz on the Age of Exploration & European Colonial Rivalries in North America (Chapter 2). Students turn in notebooks. Early finishers read pages 66 – 70 (review of material learned in class on Monday)

HW: Read pages 66 -70 if not finished in class.

Wednesday – Class reads and discusses the New England Colonies on pages 71 – 76. Students complete Check Your Progress Questions on page 76 and turn in.

HW: Complete Check Your Progress Questions on page 76 (If not Finished in Class)

Thursday – Class reads and discusses the Middle Colonies on pages 77 – 81. Students complete Check Your Progress Questions on page 81 and turn in.

HW: Complete Check Your Progress Questions on page 81 (If not Finished in Class)

Friday – Class reads and discusses the Middle Colonies on pages 84 – 89. Students complete Check Your Progress Questions on page 89 and turn in.

Tuesday – Reading Quiz. After finishing, students continue reading “Flowers for Algernon, PT 1” (p 44 – 61.) If students finish both, they should read silent reading book.

Wednesday – Complete Making Meaning Questions (Part 1) (p. 61)

HW: Finish Making Meaning Questions (Part 1) if not finished in class
