WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 18, 2023. **Subject to change

PLEASE NOTE: LATE WORK IS GRADED AS ZERO UNLESS I AM NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE OF A VALID ISSUE. THE WORK WILL STILL BE REQURED TO BE DONE DURING RECESS AND/OR P.E. THE FOLLOWING DAY BUT THE ZERO WILL REMAIN. I EXPECT STUDENTS TO BE RESPONSIBLE.

Period 1: English 3/4

MON: Names/Nombres Vocab Quiz. Group Comprehension Questions. Graded.

TUES: Refresher on dialogue rules. Begin story activity related to the “Names/Nombres” short story. (Handout will be given with instructions). Graded.

WED-THURS: Continue story writing.

FRI: Story due at beginning of class. Begin vocab for “American History” by Cortez. Individual part of speech and definition (for vocab test) and group turns in sentences using the words.

NOTE: If you are absent for story reading, read it yourself and summarize what you read. If you are absent for handout activities, see “Period 1” folder for handouts. Work will be due the day after you return unless we discuss otherwise.

Period 2: Reading/Literature/Film

MON: “Ruthless” Vocab Quiz; start reading “Ruthless.”

TUES-FRI: “Ruthless” reading, comp. questions (graded) and other post-reading activities (graded).

IF YOU ARE ABSENT, see the “period 2” folder for makeup work.

Period 3: ELA 6th Grade

MON-TUES: Go over spelling correction worksheet; in-class spelling words dictionary work. Individuals will copy part of speech and definition (for use in studying for the test), and the group will provide sentences to be graded.

WED: Test on we/us usage, dialogue, subject/verb usage and editing/proofing skill learned last week. Study for the spelling words test tomorrow. HW: Write 5 sentences with adjectives and underline the adjectives. Graded. RETURN HOMEWORK LETTER SIGNED BY PARENTS.

THURS: Spelling words test. Begin “The Wish” by Dahl vocabulary work. HW: Write 5 sentences with adverbs and underline the adverbs. Graded.

FRI: Complete “The Wish” by Dahl vocabulary work. Graded.

IF YOU ARE ABSENT, see the “period 3” folder for makeup work.

Period 4: Ethics – USB DRIVE REQUIRED

MON: Discussion of euthanasia and the associated moral dilemmas, identify pros and cons, fairness factors, religious factors, the question of “do we or society/government determine our fate?”

TUES-THURS: Million Dollar Baby movie and discussion.

FRI: Assign ethical dilemma project on euthanasia.

IF YOU ARE ABSENT, you will need to watch the movie or the parts you missed on your own.

Period 5: Geography / Culture

MON-TUES: Maps and Globes – videos, learning, and practice (graded handouts).

WED: SILENT STUDY PERIOD.

THURS-FRI: Maps and Globes continued – practice (graded handouts).

IF YOU ARE ABSENT, get handouts from “Period 5” folder and links to videos from Mrs. Smith. You will need to view the video on your own and write a summary of what you learned.

Period 6: Speech and Debate (no class Wednesdays)

MON: Debate Quiz. Continue working on homeless debate.

TUES, THURS, FRI: Do the debate, do the ballot, do the critique, and celebrate!
