WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 4, 2023. **Subject to change

MONDAY: LABOR DAY HOLIDAY

Period 1: English 3/4

TUES: 9th/10th graders ELA Standardized Testing. All others, bring reading material. THOSE WHO HAVE NOT FINISHED THE DIALOGUE, IT MUST BE DONE TONIGHT.

WED: Continue reading and discussing “America and I.” Participation graded.

THURS & FRI: “America and I” activities.

NOTE: If you are absent for class reading, read the story yourself and summarize what you read. If you are absent for handed out activities, you will need to make them up by the day after you return.

Period 2: Reading/Literature/Film

TUES: Read and discuss “The Aged Mother; Participation graded.

WED: 7th grade standardized testing. All others, bring a book or you will select a book to read and read in class.

THURS: 6th grade standardized testing. All others, bring a book or you will select a book to read in class.

FRI: Vocabulary quiz – “The Aged Mother;” continue to read and discuss “The Aged Mother” and related activities.

IF YOU ARE ABSENT, see Mrs. Smith for make-up work.

Period 3: ELA 6th Grade

TUES: “To, Too, and Two” refreshers. Write sentences using the words in class. (6 sentences are for HW – we didn’t get there during class.)

WED: Standardized testing for all 6th graders. Tonight, you will study for tomorrow’s quiz.

THURS: “To, Too, and Two” quiz. Review dialogue rules and practice. Weekend homework: Finish the story.

Period 4: Ethics

TUES: Table dilemma (graded). “Is it okay to lie.” The 5Ws and H of lying.

WED-FRI: Group work:

1. Hypothesize: Think of or find a culture that you suspect might have different cultural rules than you do.

2. Do research to see if you are right.

3. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation: your hypothesis, your research, and your conclusion – will begin presenting on Monday.

Period 5: Geography / Culture

TUES: Culture: The Iceberg philosophy (graded)

WED: What makes a city a city? Graded participation and discussion.

THURS-FRI: City project – group (graded)

Period 6: Speech and Debate (no class Wednesdays)

TUES: Videos and discussion – CONFLICT: what can go wrong and what do we do about it?

IF YOU ARE ABSENT, watch the videos and write a summary of what you learned about them.

THURS-FRI: Format of debate (videos) continued
