Period 1: English 9/10

MON: Txt p. 103: central idea, text structure (compare-contrast, cause-effect, problem-solution, argument, sequence-chronology), editorials (genre) & examples.

TUE: “The Power of a Dinner Table,” txt p. 105, GRADED discussion, txt p. 107 assessment. Tonight, study for figurative language quiz.

WED: Figurative language quiz. Begin editorial. Grammar will be heavily counted (use grammar checker). 2 cited sources required, MLA format source citing. Generator: https://www.mybib.com/tools/mla-citation-generator.

THURS: Continue working on editorial – MUST BE TYPED - due Monday.


Period 2: ELA 6

MON: Figurative language practice with concepts of freedom. Study tonight for figurative language quiz tomorrow (resource handout).

TUE: GRADED Figurative language quiz. “A Rose That Grew from Concrete” poem GRADED discussion.

WED: GRADED Group work on “The Rose That Grew from Concrete.”

THURS: Intensive learning about Document Based Writing.


Period 3: Literacy

MON - THURS: Read Chapters 1 – 3 Holes in class. Discuss in small group literature circles and answer comprehension questions. If we finish sooner, we will continue to read additional chapters.


Period 4: English 11/12

MON-WED: Continue ethnography fieldwork and fieldwork entries – all due by the end of the week.

THURS: Discuss secondary sources, MLA format and practice.


Period 5: ELA 7

MON - THURS: “The Story of an Hour.” Annotations, 5Ws+H, irony. GRADED: class discussion, individual quiz, and group comprehension questions.


Period 6: Law (no class Wednesdays)

MON - TUES: Students present findings on law assigned to research. Continue discussions about business regulations, handout, website materials and video. GRADED discussion.

WED-THURS: GRADED quiz on regulation. Create a visual diagram of how business law impacts both consumers and businesses. Cite various laws and agencies in your diagram – research as needed – GRADED.
