Week of November 27, 2023

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 27, 2023. **Subject to change

LATE WORK WILL BE GRADED AS ZERO. BE RESPONSIBLE. If you have a valid excuse for not turning something in, you MUST email me the night before and ask for an extension.

Period 1: English HS (If absent, see “Period 1” folder for handouts).

MON-TUES: Read “An Arranged Marriage” short story and discussion.

TUES HW: Write 2 sentences each using these words: rattle (noun), rattle (verb), skedaddle (verb).

WED-THURS: Work on Group PowerPoint Presentation assignment (handout). You will be graded on participation based upon your in-class focus on the project. Presentations begin on Monday.

Period 2: Reading/Literature/Film (IF ABSENT, see the “period 2” folder for makeup work).

MON: Vocabulary group work from the short story, “Civil Peace.”

TUES: Prereading activities and begin reading “Civil Peace.” Theme: How to accept the uncertainty of life.

WED: Vocabulary quiz and continue reading/discussing “Civil Peace.”

WED HW: Write two sentences for each of these words: civil (adjective), civility (noun), civilized (adjective).

THURS - FRI: “Civil Peace” post-reading comprehension questions (group) (handout).

Period 3: ELA 6th Grade (IF ABSENT, see the “period 3” folder for makeup work).

This week, we will be working with the short story, “Charles,” by Shirley Jackson.

MON: Vocabulary (group) (handout).

TUES: Continue vocabulary handout. If time permits, begin reading the story.

WED: Vocabulary Quiz, continue reading the story.

THURS-FRI: Comprehension Questions from the story (group) (handout).

THURS HW: Write two sentences for each of these words: grime, thyme, mime.

Period 4: Ethics (IF ABSENT, see “period 4” folder for makeup work.)

MON- ?: Individual presentations for as few or as many days as we need to complete.

After the presentations are completed, we will begin the topic of Slavery Reparations and the ethical issues on all sides of the discussion.

Period 5: STUDY HALL – 8th grade

This period is intended to offer additional time to complete assignments in all classes, absentee work, and afford help in 8th grade ELA. Come prepared to work and study. Grades are based upon dedication to study and behavior standards.

Period 6: Speech and Debate (no class Wednesdays)

Mon - ?: Speeches that were prepared the week before Thanksgiving week will be given.

After speeches are done, we will vote on the next debate topic – TBD.
