WEEK OF JANUARY 16, 2024.   **Subject to change

SECOND SEMESTER BEGINS JANUARY 16, 2024

REPORT CARDS ARE OUT JANUARY 23, 2024

LATE WORK GRADED AS ZERO.  If you have a valid excuse for being late, you MUST email me the night before and ask for an extension.

HW:  If you don’t turn in your HW, you will write a 5-paragraph essay: “Why it is Harmful to Not Do My Homework.”

Period 1:  English HS (If absent, see “Period 1” folder for handouts). 

This week we will be begin African American literature.  We will watch some videos for context and then work with the poem “Caged Bird” by Angelou and poetry concepts work (handouts)

WED night HW:  Write down the definition, part of speech, and two sentences for each of these words: Fanaticism, Skepticism, Scism. 

Period 2:  Reading/Literature/Film (IF ABSENT, see the “period 2” make-up work folder).

This week we will be working with the short story, “The Friday That Changed Everything.”  Reading the story, group comprehension work and a writing exercise (handout).

WED night HW:  Write down the definition, part of speech, and two sentences for each of these words:  Intentional, Delusional, Communal.

Period 3:  ELA 6th Grade (IF ABSENT, see the “period 3” make-up folder).

We will continue to work with poetry.  Reading “The Wind” and comprehension work related (handout).

WED night HW:  Essay Hook and Theme Work handout – complete it.

THURS night HW:  Write down part of speech, definition and write two sentences each for these words:  Pack (noun), Pack (verb), Stack (noun), Stack (verb).

Period 4:  Political Science (IF ABSENT, see “period 4” folder for makeup work.)

This week we will begin introduction to Political Science.  We will be discussing issues, terminology, and subject matter that will be dealt with in this Second Semester. A current event will be assigned.

Period 5:   STUDY HALL – 8th grade

This period is intended to offer additional time to complete assignments in all classes, absentee work, and afford help in 8th grade ELA.  Come prepared to work and study.  Grades are based upon dedication to study and behavior standards.

Period 6:  Creative Writing (no class Wednesdays)

We will be discussing new concepts for this Second Semester class and some writing assignments will be given.
