Week of February 20, 2024

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 20, 2024.   **Subject to change


LATE WORK GRADED AS ZERO. Unless you have a valid excuse for being late and you email me the night before asking me for an extension.


HW:  If you don’t turn in your HW, you will write a 5-paragraph essay: “Why it is Harmful to Not Do My Homework.”


NO NAME on the physical paper = Grade 0. 


Period 1:  English HS (If absent, see “Period 1” folder for handouts). 

TUES-WED:  "Recitatif" reading continued.  Discussion and participation grade.

TUES NIGHT HW:  Write down the definition, part of speech, and two sentences for each of these words: Fanatic, Fanaticism, and Fanatically.

THURS–FRI:  Comprehension question work (group - handout), and time permitting, a short story task will be assigned (handout).


Period 2:  Reading/Literature/Film (IF ABSENT, see the “period 2” make-up work folder).

TUES:  Spelling Bee from Chapters 1 & 2 The Outsiders.  If you are absent, write 2 sentences with each word on the handout given previously for these two chapters for your participation grade.

WED-THURS:  The Outsiders Chapters 1 & 2 reading and discussion, participation graded. If you are absent, write a summary of what you missed.

FRI:  The Outsiders Chapters 1 & 2 post reading questions (group - handout).

WED night HW:  Write down the definition, part of speech, and two sentences for each of these words:  Enumerate, Perpetuate, Substantiate. 


Period 3:  ELA 6th Grade (IF ABSENT, see the “period 3” make-up folder).

TUES-FRI:  We are starting work on the novel Out of My Mind.  For Chapters 1-3, we will have vocabulary work, we will read and discuss the chapters (participation graded), and on FRIDAY, there will be a vocabulary quiz and other activity.

WED night HW:  Write down the definition, part of speech and two sentences for each of these words:  Simple, Simpleton, Simplistic


Period 4:  Political Science (IF ABSENT, see “period 4” folder for makeup work.)

TUES:  Current events presentations (weekly – see rubric given).

WED – FRI:  This week’s topic:  What are political parties?  Groups will make up a hypothetical political party, come up with a symbol and slogan, and characterize the types of voters they think will be attracted to it.  Presentations on Friday will include the name, symbol, and slogan, and present the platform (the pros of being a part of the party). CONVINCE US!


Period 5:   STUDY HALL – 8th grade

This period is intended to offer additional time to complete assignments in all classes, absentee work, and afford help in 8th grade ELA.  Come prepared to work and study.  Grades are based upon dedication to study and behavior standards.


Period 6:  Creative Writing (no class Wednesdays)

During this semester, writing assignments will be given via written handouts with instructions.  They may be daily or over several days.
